I have a car on hire purchase it is curly undrivable due to multiple mechanical failures reported at the time of purchase where do I stand as I cannot afford the repairs and the repayments to the finance company?

Eh? It had faults when you first got it and you're still using it 2 years later? You should have rejected it right at the outset.

You still have an escape route though ... if you can demonstrate that it has been faulty since first supply then you can still reject it now for a refund - the only caveat is that the seller can reduce the value of the refund to account for the loss of value due to the miles you've put on the car.

Also, as it is on finance then you can raise a Section 75 claim against the finance company ... S75 makes the finance company jointly liable with the seller for the performance of the contract, including the buyer's rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
