Hi, I have a Land Rover Defender with only 2 seats and suddenly (as a result of the death of my father in law) need to buy a car to transport my wife as well as my mother in law. My pal has a Vauxhall Corsa which he bought pre registered and says he saved a great deal of money over the price of a new car. His car only had 2 miles on the clock. The Corsa is about the right size but at the moment I have no preference, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai ?????, Seat ?????, Kia ?????, (must be 4/5 door) you can tell I am an expert on small cars!. I do not live near any garages and have no time to be travelling to see any cars. Just wondering if anyone is aware of any good new or pre registered car deals at the moment. Perhaps to include free servicing, free insurance, free fuel for 10 years, you get the picture. The car does need to be close enough to where I live in North Yorkshire. York, Harrogate, Middlesborough, Thirsk, Northallerton. Look forward to any help. Thanks Mike

News flash - there is no such thing as free anything, it would of been built into the price.

Peugeot do a "just add fuel" deal but if you crunch the numbers you will pay for the servicing and insurance in the monthly payments.

Do you actually need a brand new car to carry an extra passenger or will a 3/4 year old one do?

You are better off getting a cheap loan and buying a few year old low mileage car and running that. If you have no preference try looking at Hyundai i30's or Seat Leons - compare the spec and equipment of equivalent Vauxhall/Ford/VW you seem to get more for your money.

Theres some car supermarkets in the areas you suggest - do some research on the cars and dealers in the area.

Fit some seats in the back of the Landy for a few hundred quid. Best way to save yourself thousands of pounds.

And how much for 2 extra doors? "(must be 4/5 door)"

    Toyota Yaris.

Plenty out there and an excellent 5 year warranty you will probably never need.

Free free free. Let me know when you find it.

In theory pre-reg cars are cheaper because you aren't paying VAT on the car, only on the dealer's profit margin (e.g. if they buy a car direct for £20k and sell to you for £25k, there's only £1k VAT built into the deal rather than £4k).

Carwow are about your best chance for buying a new car at the cheapest price, but after doing a number of builds with them the pre-reg cars weren't enough of a saving really to warrant not buying a new spec.

In the end I bought a 3 year old car with low mileage and a warranty as I decided I wasn't up for the colossal depreciation on a brand new car.

A pal of mine has been banging on about fitting a seat in the back of the Landy but apart from the cost of the conversion and increased insurance for the modification the mother in law can not get into the landy. She is 91 yrs old and very immobile and 16 stone. Additionally the landy would no longer serve the purpose it was purchased for.

Have phoned a few car dealers and found generally they are hard work. Thought I had a deal on a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Energy pre registered for £9,995.00 but when I made further enquiries this did not include road tax and delivery was about £600 to where I live.

    Thanks for all the advice.

She may struggle with the LR, but unless she is 3ft tall she may striggle with a Corsa also. Fairly low down seating position.

You sort of fall down into the seat.

I have just taken a Motability Hyundai iX20 petrol 1.6, with 125 bhp. Mine is an auto box model, but still quite nippy as it has a 6-speed box. The seats are at normal height for a 5 door hatchback, but the roofline is higher than the i20. Your MIL may find it easier to get into. My wife is still recovering from a new hip at 72 and gets in by sitting at 90º to the seat, which is pushed right back, and swings her legs in easily. Wife has the front seat, anyone else goes in the back. I advise you to do that for MIL.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

Define normal height? KA seats are higher than a Fiesta, C-Max seats are higher than a Focus.....

Some cars have height adjustment seats and some don't. Whats normal height?
