Hot conservatory- temporary solution

Hi,

We brought a house that has a massive south facing conservatory, with a polycarbonate roof. It’s ridiculously hot, we need a temporary solution as we will be knocking it down and building an extension next year. Would tarpaulin work over the top work?

Whitewashing the outside will help

Or drill some holes near the top of the roof and fit some roof vents
