Parcel delivered, left in safe place but not there

I sold a mobile phone & sent it the following day by collect plus economy. I have just received an email from the buyer to say that he has a card through the door & the item has been left in the shed. He has just checked & it isnt there. Where do I stand ?
I should add that after he placed his bid he messaged me asking if the phone was locked / unlocked, when it was clearly in the item description that it was locked to vodafone. I was thinking he decided he didnt want it & is trying it on ! But it may be genuine....who knows

What does the tracking say?
If it shows as delivered then a case will go in your favour, but you should dispute the delivery with the carrier.
Was the mobile phone covered by the carriers insurance?0 -
The tracking shows as delivered, left in a safe place. I have replied to the buyer advising the isnt anything i can do & for him to open a dispute. I have also sent an email to collectplus. Collectplus economy is covered upto £50, the phone sold for £67, so worst case senario is i lose a few quid.Born and bred in Manchester (proud of it)

He is trying it on. Expect a dispute and then submit proof that it was delivered. Ebay will either side with you or the buyer. If you have proof that it was delivered and you used a service that required a signature then you are a-ok - if you used another service then he will get a free phone.0

Hi,
the fact that he got a card, means delivery man was there, if phone not in safe place, then a neighbour knows his safe place or he is trying it on.0 -
You could message the buyer and tell him that you have a record of the IMEI number and will/could report it as stolen and that will stop the phone working and then see what the buyer says to that.
It may then turn up very quick.0 -

A signature is not needed to win a PayPal or eBay claim on this value of item. Proof of delivery is all that's needed.
Whilst I agree that sellers need to protect their account first and foremost this is not necessarily a scam, many of us on here, myself included, have had parcels 'delivered' and actually left in some weird and wonderful places, or not at all. I live on a road that has a lot of passerbys, yet some couriers seem to think placing a large parcel with a high end branding on it stood up by my front door for everyone to see while I'm out is 'delivered' . I'd be asking the courier for more details in order to help the buyer, although warning the buyer that the phone will be blocked and blacklisted might just get them trying their neighbours or family a little more urgently.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What does the buyer lose?
Why did you tell them there is nothing you can do, did you not read my post. It is YOUR responsibility to dispute the delivery with the carrier.
I take it that is the email you sent to collect plus?0
