Section 75 protection on a used car

Thanks for all your replies. My car wasn't in Degas hose recall, but no one seems to understand why not as it had the same fault. The Degas hose was actually replaced a couple of weeks ago because a warning light came on. But as soon as we got the car back we could tell something wasn't right so we took it back to the garage (Ford garage both times) and that's when they said the engine was kaput.

I have now read so much negativity about the ecoboost, including some people who got their engines replaced and then the second engine went the way of the first, that I don't trust the ecoboost at all. Thinking of asking Ford if they will cut me a deal on a non-ecoboost car.

To put some perspective here there are tens of millions of ecoboost engines in Fords all over the world in everything from Fiestas to the big pick up trucks the Yanks love to drive and Ford garages aren't full of cars having their engines replaced. Of course you'll read plenty of posts from people who have had problems because nobody posts that they haven't.

You drove it back and they said the engine was kaput? Not kaput enough for you to be able to drive it back though?

It doesnt go from coolant loss to overheat in a second. It needs to lose all its coolant and then the temperature rises. You get a warning light or the gauge goes up or the smell should alert you all is not well and to switch the engine off.

And the SOGA was replaced by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which became law in June 2015 (from memory). So whatever SOGA says is irrelevant. :)

1st October 2015 but close enough ;) (CCRs were 13th June 2014 so thats probably where you got June from).

OP try a section 75 claim - it will cost you nothing except a little time and carries no risk. If the bank reject your claim (or 8 weeks pass without them issuing a final response), you can then submit it to the financial ombudsman which will also only cost you time and carry no risk.

If an engine suffers a total coolant loss the engine temperature will indeed start rising but it's almost certain to be the case that there won't be any corresponding indication on the temperature gauge or any temp warning light shown.

The temperature indication system works by the sensors measuring the temperature of the coolant but if all of this coolant has been lost, there won't be anything to measure so the indication won't rise.

Yes, but it might not fall very quickly.
There will still be a fair bit of residual heat in the temperature sensor and the surrounding area so it may well take a minute or two before there is any noticeable drop and by this time the engine itself may well have greatly overheated.

I thought the 1L temperature sensor was in the head and measured the metal temperature not the coolant temperature.

Either way, head temperature the needle will rise giving a warning.

If its the coolant then the temperature will rise as the coolant decreases, before falling off when there is no coolant.

There would be a warning, but its often the case the driver doesnt monitor the gauges and the smell also.

Reminds me of the threads my oil light is on but its OK because its due for a service in a few weeks...:eek::eek:
