Congratulations on your baby news! When are you due?
Sorry to hear about your dad, I really hope they manage for figure out what's going on and try to get him on the mend. It's horrible when there's a family member to worry about. I think everything just goes to pot, everything else goes out of the window and you just try to exist and support each other so it's no wonder your pots have gone a bit over. You're right though, you should cut yourself some slack during this tough time.

Don't feel bad about the extra spends. As you say, it's exceptional circumstances, and I'm sure your family appreciate you looking after them so well!
As for school shoes, I got Spud's shoes in Asda, they were only £13 and look really good quality!0 -

Thank you so much for all your good wishes everybody, it was lovely to come on and read.
Baby is due at the beginning of next year. Finance wise, it doesn't make much difference to us.....OH and I will juggle work as usual. I was considering claiming maternity allowance, but I think I've decided against it, as I need to keep my tax returns looking healthy for future mortgage applications!
Tomorrow I have some spends planned with a little Ikea trip to overhaul LO's bedroom so we can reuse all his furniture in the new nursery.
This week with LO starting school I have a good opportunity to do all my end of month bits for work, we have just had our most successful ever month, which I am thrilled to bits about as we have been working like dogs! It means HMRC keeps getting paid down which means I sleep well!0 -
Lovely news on a new baby.
Good news on paying down the HMRC

Am emerging from the fog of month end, and seeing some organisation in my house and life!! I have finally sorted all our budgets and have made some slight adjustments.
-I have upped the grocery budget to £300 just to ease the pressure on myself this month.
-I have treated myself to an additional £150 on my personal budget, as I desperately need some maternity clothes and obviously there is not time to save for them
I'm reusing as many of my old ones as I can, but I do need new bits, as the trousers especially are very tatty!
LO's new room is all installed and done, he is a happy boy
With planned overpayments on cards, I need an additional £959 this month over the 'wage allowance' of £3000 we have given ourselves. I have some additional freelance work to be paid for of around £100 so thats my start on that. Plus I really need to crack on with selling wedding dress, designer boots and OH's coin/notes collection. There is an advert in the local paper for someone looking to buy coins and notes, but I am really worried about being ripped off. He has absolutely loads, it is all in pristine condition, and I just don't know where to start in terms of getting it valued. If work can take it, we can always pay ourselves more, but I'd rather source the income elsewhere.
Credit card balances are as follows:
Barclaycard - 2810
Nationwide (0%) (formerly the high interest Barclaycard) - 3300
Lloyds - 5203
So we are really close to being under £10k....next month

Hello diary....it's been a while!
Work and home life supremely busy, which is good news on the money front.
I will of course do a detailed month end report, but I just wanted to make a note in my diary that I managed to step away from temptation! Looking at Christmas Eve boxes for the family ( it's a little tradition I have started with my OH and son, which of course will extend to the bump too). Personalised ones online we're coming in at around £30 each! The old me would have just bought them....but this time, I checked myself and decided a trip to Hobbycraft for wooden boxes and stencils was the better option
there is something strangely satisfying about exercising some self restraint! 0 -
Hi :hello:
Haven't read your diary yet but your first post felt strangely familiar.
Our plan is to become homeowners in 2022. I plan to go back to work in 2021 when DC2 goes to school so by then I need to have paid off our debts and have some sort of house deposit.
Nice to know that someone else has a similar goal. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
