Excel 2016; Unnecessarily recovered files

Hi

I am hoping you can help either with a solution or on how to phrase the question for Google.

About half the time when I open Excel 2016 (on Windows 10), it is saying I have recovered files and that I need to check them.

One of the files is not one I opened in the previous session.
The other file I will have opened but made sure I closed. Also before closing the machine, I open Excel to make sure there are no open files.

With the file I never opened recently, I just delete the recovered version.
With the recently used file, I just close the file.

Any thoughts on how I overcome this annoying problem?

Many thank

LR

nb : you may have to "show hidded files and folders" before you see the appdata folder

    Thanks Andy.
I looked in that folder and there are no files.
On Windows Explorer, in the View menu, 'Hidden Items' is ticked.
Also in Home->Properties->Properties->General, Hidden is also ticked.
    So no joy here.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but my files are saved to Dropbox.
