Have you checked a couple of the credit scoring agencies?

Not to see your "score" just to see if your details are up to date, address, other accounts, or if there are any "unknown" issues on your credit file. My last check i found I was still linked to someone I had made a joint account with a couple of years ago or an overseas project, which was closed in 2014.
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

A £100K spend over 3.5 years (42 months) equates to an average monthly spend of £2370.95. This is NOT a high spend.
As the new card is issued by Virgin Money and not MBNA, Virgin Money will have no idea that you already hold 2 MBNA Virgin Atlantic cards. They will know only that you hold 2 credit cards but will be unaware of the issuer or type of card.
I don't understand the 'loyalty to Virgin Atlantic' bit. If you regularly fly with them as a revenue passenger that is loyalty. Using a credit card which gives their miles as a reward is not.
You state that you have both the black and the white card. Why? You pay an annual fee to have the black card to earn extra miles, so having paid this fee what is the point of having the white card as well? This would imply that either you have been given a very low credit limit on the black card and therefore need the two cards in order to spend what you do or else you are carrying a balance on one of the cards, which would presumably be interest bearing and therefore wipe out the value of the rewards.
You mention providing bank statements. Again why? You have stated an income on your application. You have said nothing to imply that the amount of your income has been disputed, so why do you feel the need to send bank statements? You mention business along with bank statements. I hope that you have claimed only your personal income (ie the amount that you personally pay tax on) and have not included business turnover or employer reimbursed travel expenses as part of your income! If you have, you are more likely to get a CIFAS marker for fraud than an credit card.
Your track record' and loan repayment will be evident from your credit files.
Do you have any other credit cards apart from these 2 MBNA Virgin Atlantic cards
What sort of balances do you have on your cards? What is your utilisation %?
Reading your posts on other threads I see that you were recently taken to court in relation to an unpaid private parking ticket. Don't know how this was resolved, but if you got a ccj as a result of this then there is the answer as to why you were refused by Virgin Money.
  • Hi RickStein53

Myself & my husband have just experienced the same as you - both held Virgin MBNA cards for probably more than 15 years - him black, me white. We pay the minimum by DD every month and make a same day transfer for the difference owed just so we never miss a payment or owe interest apart from occasionally like yourself.

They have bombarded us with emails, texts, mail and promotions to apply for their new replacement card and because of the Virgin air miles offer we applied - both got turned down, absolutely disgusted.

There is no way to contact them apart from a phone call and I am so angry about this slur against my credit history that I probably wouldn't be able to speak to them without losing my temper.

Why bombard us and a demographic like us to apply if we are just going to be too good for them credit wise, I don't understand the logic? Do they want to go back to the disasters of the past where they gave credit and huge limits to people who couldn't afford to pay it back just to make money? My Mum, God Bless Her, received mail from them begging her to open accounts, take out loans and generally apply for credit when she was in her late 80's and had no income but the state pension and was suffering from the early signs of dementia - she could have got in a terrible mess if I hadn't thrown this junk mail away.

I like to think I am quite an intelligent person as an Accountant now and previously a Bank employee, as was my Mum, before the banks went bad (I left in 1994, when I couldn't stand their selling product methods anymore, I wanted to do admin and figure work, not be a salesman!) but I don't understand how credit scoring is done anymore, you have to be bad and need credit to get it, the exact opposite of the 80's & 90's

Like a previous reply states why Virgin Atlantic? I agree with the comment as they aren't actually as special as they used to be in the 90's and early 00's. We just had a perfectly good flight to & from Canada in the last month with BA and my loyalty to Virgin is over now and they do not deserve to make a penny further out of me! LOL ! I wish there was an emoji for poop on here !

Gary I would agree with you up to a point but these letters are specifically for people who had the MBNA Virgin Air miles reward credit card and Virgin Money do refer to the fact you had this card before their association stopped, so not everybody would get these particular letters. I think I might find something heavy that fits in an envelope and put the letters in with it and send the whole package back to them without a stamp. :-P

I was with MBNA Amex Virgin card since day one. I got now the replacement Horizon card
I also got letters from Virgin to sign up to their card. The extra miles are very tempting .
I have however sign up and accepted for Amex cash back card. Thinking about signing up as well for the Virgin Atlantic card but do I have the risk to be turned down as well maybe? ( I always paid via DD full amount , never missed a payment )
Will my new Amex card affect getting a new card so soon??
