Hi all,
Does anyone know how I go about having click & delete bits of text in a paragraph? My terminology is awful so I'll try and explain what I mean....
In my industry (accountancy) we have to do "letters of engagement", which outline the services we provide to clients when we act for them. In this engagement letter there are about 7 pages of writing covering services, fees, notice periods etc, all of which can be one of a few options in each sentence.
As we've just had a PA start who doesn't necessarily know what to type in these options, I want to have the facility to choose from one - for example the options could be "weekly/four-weekly/monthly" and I know there's a way to select the ones you don't want and hit delete - this works with whole paragraphs too....
Can anyone shed any light on this please?
Thanks

I think you might be refering to the "Forms" options ( View->Toolbars->Forms ). This allows a dropdown box to be put into the document and items added for selection. Do a search in the Help menu for it.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
This has to be to simple to be what you are after.
Highlite the text press delete.
You could use a macro with a program called typeitin it to insert the type rather than remove the text you don't need.

Thanks for that, although that's not the thing I was looking for - the thing I'm thinking of makes the words grey and you can select them and delete as necessary....
Any ideas?!!0 -
Could it be 'Insert' and 'quick parts' where you can build a selection of phrases where you can select just one of them for your document?0

Where's this quickparts nugget? Can't find it!

Are you using microsoft office word 2007, if not I can't help0

Oh that's it then - I'm on 2003 but only upgraded last month.... doh!0

What you are referring to are field codes. Hold down ctrl + F9 key and you get two curly brackets !!} Type a prompt for the typist in between the brackets (such as your weekly,four-weekly, monthly, etc).
When you open the new document, you can use the F11 key to jump to these places within the document quickly, the text and brackets will automatically be highlighted allowing you to type over these fields to enter the new text.
Hope that helps.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Amazing! Thanks very much!
Although.... I've done F9 & ctrl, the {s have come up but when I type something into them, save, go out and come back into the document, there's nothing in the field - the field just disappears! Do I need to put any particular formula in the brackets?
Thanks0
