The target group for the card should be disabled people--it really irritates me when stuff like this hinges on DWP decisions, which as we all know are based on a deeply flawed system. I managed to get a Priority Seat Card from Southern with a GP letter but that's not good enough for NR. I guess because railcards involve money.

I've looked into other railcards. I used to have a 16-25 one but I'm no longer in the age range, the 26-30 has ended, I'm not a senior, the minimum fare for a Network Railcard is more than my usual ticket, and I usually travel alone so that rules out the others.

And I think that I should qualify for an Amex black card, doesn't mean that I do. Or one of those fancy cards where they give you air miles for spending, can't get one of those either. Life's a b!tch.

Maybe they set the railcard up and aimed it at people who need to bring an assistant? People who have disabilities like needing a wheelchair, a sighted guide, hearing support/a BSL interpreter, a person to help during a seizure etc and that's why the big benefit of it is that you can use it for a discounted ticket for yourself and another person during the peak hours? Not someone with a medical condition that they can manage on their own but who fancies a discount.

A hearing impairment means you automatically qualify without PIP/DLA.

Same with epilepsy, I just send the white slip off my prescription showing epilepsy meds. Benefits are not looked at.

Anxiety and depression are not neccessarily a disability although they can be. I have suffered from both in the past and was not disabled although I was not able to work for a while.
That's why it's linked to certain benefits, to show the impact they are having in day to day life in the longer term. Otherwise anyone off sick for a couple of months could be requesting a disabled rail card, going on your logic ref ESA.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yes, indeed it does as i stated in my post #4. I used to have a disabled rail card for this very reason. I no longer travel by train so it's not needed and haven't renewed it for quite a few years.
  • Is there another type of Railcard you might be eligible to apply for, so you can still get a discount on fares?
