Thank you all, I have considered selling the car I can get the train to work but one of my few hobbies is hillwalking and I need it to get there. Obviously if needs must I could sell but do I want the house and no life? it's four years old and economical so hardly flash. Like I say I am not ruling it out but not for now.

The depreciation on a 4-y-o car is still significant. For example if it's worth 9k now, it'll be worth 6k in a year. Downgrading now and being smart, might get you a long way to your 5k cash.

The motoring board could help with the detail.

It wouldn't cost that much new! It's a tiny wee car, very economical and like I said I still need a car so not willing to get rid of it right now to buy something that might break down or cost a fortune in repairs sorry.
