Another vote here for Edgeley. Probably the most desirable area of Edgeley is the "reservoir" side - if you look on a map it's the area around Alexandra Park where most of the streets are named after European or Indian cities. Also consider Cale Green/Shaw Heath/Heaviley for similar priced terraced property. Most FTB houses around here seem to be selling quickly.0

There have been some pretty nice houses up on the market in Edgeley recently and they seem to go within a few weeks. I have noticed at the viewings we've been to the majority of people we have seen have been FTBers between 20s & 30s. Have you visited the area? If you have a walk around before viewing a house that will help so you'll be able to see whereabouts on the map it is. It is a minefield and one which will make you feel helpless and hopeless - but it's somehow all part of the journey! How many houses have you viewed so far and have you been looking for long?
Are you buying in Edgeley as well then? I keep looking three times a day but there doesn't seem to be anything on just at the moment that is quite suitable, one or two that might be ok so I won't rule them out yet, I'll go and have a look. I'm going to go and have a nosey round the area this weekend to give myself a bit of an idea of what it's like. I was originally looking last year, but I was looking in North Manchester and things are so much more affordable that end! Then when a house was going to buy fell through I decided to hold off because I knew I didn't want to stay in my current job and didn't know whereabouts I'd end up for my next job. Typically seen some lovely places that end that would be perfect! I started looking at buying again about 2 months ago, I've viewed quite a few but nothing has been right. Might end up having to rent for a bit before I buy but I'm worried that prices will go up even more!0 -

There are some new flats that will be available at the end of the year. They start at £132k, so may be a possibility for you. They are very small though. If you know Chealde Hulme at all, they are located at the back of the precinct, about a 2 min walk from the train station, so obviously will be on your doorstep for work, and easy to get home from town.
I grew up in Cheadle Hulme, love the area, one day i might get back there!
Thanks for this, I have seen these but the location isn't really what I'm after, (I guess I don't want to be right in a town centre, even if it is only a small one) and I'm also looking for a 2 bed property - only the 1 bed apartments would be in my price range for these!0 -

Thanks so much for this! I hadn't heard of any of those other areas, just looked on Right Move and there might be one or two possibilities there so that's a great help0 -

Hi Hannah, yes we're buying in EdgeleyI think more will come on the market soon - I got a bit obsessed with checking every hour but it's worth doing. If you're coming for a wander, I would suggest visiting Alexandra Park and the reservoir and if you can walk or drive into Stockport and go to the old town area (Market Hall/20 Century Stores) - last Saturday they had the makers market which was great and the sun was shining! I'm not too sure when the next market is but they do a Foodie Friday on in Stockport on the last Friday of the month. We walked through Castle Street and wasn't particularly fond of it, but I wouldn't let it faze you.
We looked at Prestwich and while I liked it, we just couldn't imagine ourselves actually living there. The main road in Prestwich just seemed so busy and we offered on a house (10K over as it was 'offers over') and it went for about 20K over which was just crazy! We also looked in Monton which looked lovely, but again it turns out it just gets so expensive.
I think if you are in no rush, then just keep viewing and making sure you have your MIP ready so should you see somewhere you are ready to move with it. I wish we were able to buy last year, but we just weren't in a position to do so and having paid so much rent we are now just eager to get out and have something that is ours.
If you are considering Edgeley after your visit or if you even fancy a browse beforehand, check out some Instagram posts from the area. Also check out some of the new businesses and cafes in Stockport on social media as I think it's always nice to have a glimpse in to that side of things too.
Let me know how you get on and if you've got any questions, just let me know0
