One year we ignored all the trick or treaters, we didn't answer the door, and had a load of eggs thrown at the garage door.

    Charming!

Once again I'm afraid I'll be told I'm over reacting. But under what other circumstances would that be allowed? OK, eggs are perhaps relatively innocuous (oooh good word, wish I knew how to spell it) as long as you get your hosepipe out in time (hmm...trickortreaters - hosepipe - the grains of a solution are sprouting in my mind!) . But a favourite in the day-tripping t-or-ters we get down our road is cheap pink toilet paper wrapped around bits of the car - ariels being the obvious anchor point. I've seen this bending the ariel and I bet plenty of them get broken - not to mention the scratches etc inevitable when you mix groups of children out of their minds on e-numbers from their with-menaces booty, and metallic paintwork.

    Grrr.

I usually get some sweets in and kkep them by the door. I quite like it when the little kids make an effort - dressing up etc. with a watchful parent at the end of the drive. Sometimes their dods come along as well (also dressed up) so the they get a doggy biscuit. Don't like the (mainly boy) teenagers tho - had eggs thrown at door one year. Girls usually okay - they just giggle a lot!

but Cathy, it does make for an entertaining evening, driving around looking at the Christmas decs, plus, some of these people ask onlookers to make a donation to charity.

We always have a combined bonfire and Halloween party but it's all clean fun and we 'bob for apples' too but i wouldn't feel comfortable with the children going to other people's houses looking for treats. Plus, we live in a very dark lane.

must admit, there is an area near us that go mad with fairy lights etc for xmas, and we always have a drive round. They raise money for the local animal shelter, and i don't mind giving for that. (wouldn't like there electric bill though!!)
