HSBC Bank Loan/PPI

I had a bank loan with Midland Bank and I can find some statements showing the monthly payment of £40 for a loan. The loan was with Forward Trust. The letter returned was from First Direct.
Unfortunately I can't find any loan plan or details of PPI. As I was not aware of anything to do with PPI then I think there is a good chance I will have paid it.
In April I wrote to them (now HSBC) to complain enclosing a couple of bank statements showing the loan.
They have written back wanting more information and also sating they have searched in accordance with the FOS and can not find any evidence to confirm I had PPI.
So they are unable to take any further action unless I can provide any further information myself.
Reading this forum and others some do say they manage to go quite a way back.
What options do I now have FOS? Or anything else?
Many thanks

FOS won't have any copies of your loan paperwork.
If you can't provide any evidence, there is nothing you can do0 -
Since PPI was not routinely added without the knowledge and permission of the customer, your logic here is very flawed.I was not aware of anything to do with PPI then I think there is a good chance I will have paid it.
What was your complaint? In April I wrote to them (now HSBC) to complain
It's not even a valid complaint to complain simply because you had PPI, so it's even less of a non-starter to complain that you MAY have had the insurance.
In order for it to be refunded, you have to show that it was somehow definitely mis-sold to you.
The Ombudsman cannot help you here, I'm afraid. Without any evidence of PPI, any "complaint" is due to fall at the first hurdle.
