Barclaycard "Credit Balance Refund"

But how hard would it have been to have a line on the statement saying "Credit Balance Donated to Charity"? Instead they have "Credit Balance Refund" and then underneath "Authorised by Signature". Whose signature? We live in an age of credit card scams so too right that flagged up a few alarms in my head.
And yet you're STILL asking these questions here instead of Barclaycard!0 -

Assumption. I HAVE asked them. I await something other than, "We are pleased to be informing you that we are passing your most important enquiry to our customer services department for more activity" which is the only response I have had so far.
Not really quite sure what that means, BTW!0 -
A simple phone call would answer some questions.
I'm not much interested though in hearing that could also cost more than 14p. They publish a freephone number.0 -

Ooooh. Anticipating what I'm going to say now! Actually I already knew about the freephone number. It's one of the nicer features of Barclaycard. And widely advertised.
And I have already explained 1) That I have a pronounced stammer and find it quite difficult to converse on the telephone and 2) That I had a go at phoning them the other day and gave up after listening to musack as "all their representatives are busy" and waiting around for ages just makes me more nervous than ever. I just like to get it over with. Which is why I sent the secure message.
Happy for you to make a few more assumptions and sling a bit more mud in my direction under the guise of being helpful as it's clearly giving you a buzz.0 -
Perhaps asking the obvious here, but what did the letters say would happen if you repeatedly failed to take any action and left the account in credit but dormant?
I had two letters about this. Both stated that I had a credit balance and provided a "contact" phone number for what turned out to be an automated service where in return for entering my CC number on the keypad it again told me I had a credit balance. The phone service then provided a whole load of options including hearing my statement balance (again), paying my bill, hearing the last 3 transactions, reporting my card as lost or stolen, closing my account, etc. etc. Asking to speak to a representative resulted in more cheery musack, a message that all their representatives were busy and a suggestion that I go online.
There's a MSE thread where someone was in a similar situation with a credit card a while ago and was advised to call up to request a "Credit Balance Refund" which is free (except Santander who levy a £3 charge) but apparently they can't process anything under £1. Several other threads mention that large credit balances flag the account for money laundering but small credit balances resulting from accidental overpayments are generally ignored.
No mention of charity donations as I certainly would have remembered that. Presumably Barclaycard have a flagship charity but not sure exactly what it is.0 -
!!!!!!. I know this is MSE, but two pages about 14p? :rotfl:I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.0

I still think the money is in his bank account
page 3 coming up !0 -
This whole thread is ridiculous.
The OP has somehow, they don't mention how, managed to put their Barclaycard in credit by 14p.
They are coming out with excuse after excuse why they cannot spend the 14p (unmanned petrol stations which only accept debit cards, no large shops nearby etc).
Now apparently the 14p refund has been lost in transit between Barclaycard and the OP's bank account.
Is there really nowhere that you could have made a purchase on your Barclaycard for an amount of or in excess of 14p? If so, then better to simply cancel the card as you are obviously unable to ever use it.0 -
Whilst i completely agree with the fact that this isnt really the ethical thing to do, i would imagine a company such as barclaycard would only be doing this is if it were legal, as it would be way too high a risk to do for a small amount of money if it was not.0
