Virgin Media router scam still doing the rounds

Got a phone call this morning on my land line, from an Asian sounding guy who said he was from Virgin Media. He asked for me by my maiden name which I only use on some email, so must have got my details by some nefarious means. I passed him to my husband, who is actually the VM account holder, and the caller then referred to him as Mr (my maiden name...). He said they needed to check out some lights on our router. OH asked them to quote his VM account number and they gave him a number, right format, wrong number. So be aware. This scam is doing the rounds again.
(As I understand it, having supposedly checked the lights on your router, and found a fault, they go on to ask for control of your pc/laptop to fix whatever fake problem they claim to have identified.)

As are all the other scams .
Usually they ask you to download one of the programs that let another user connect to your PC for help .0 -

It has never stopped "doing the rounds"
As above - never give them any personal details or access to your computer and they are harmless0 -

Actually I had this a few years ago from a muppet claiming to be from Talk Talk. I told him I was running Linux which he could not grasp and told me I should be running Windows. Actually I was but he did not know that and as I 'could not' find the Windows key on my keyboard he eventually gave up after about fifteen minutes. Of course the Windows key was there all the time and Windows 7 was actually running.0
