Lloyd’s bank joint account closure issue

Hi,
I’m hoping someone has been in a similar situation and can advise on the best way to proceed - if there is one.
I had a joint account, which Lloyd’s froze / blocked in 2015, after I contacted them as my partner left - not a single word, he just left. I believe he went back to his home town 200+ miles from me and he changed his mobile number. I have no way of contacting him.
Lloyd’s will not close the account without him present, there must be a way around this, given the situation?
Any ideas? TIA

If the balance is zero there shouldn't be a problem. Sounds like its in arrears?

If its overdrawn they won't close it.0

Don't forget that if it is in arrears then because it is a joint account you are both jointly and severally liable for it as they say - in other words they can come after either of you for the full amount0

Hi
Sorry for late reply, it’s actually in credit to the sum of £6!
I have raised a complaint, but the branch said they won’t close the account without both of us being present, which will never happen
I may be stuck with this financial connection forever. Experian said they can’t remove it, because the current account is open.
When I typed blocked, I literally meant blocked, ie no transactions could be made on the account without one of us physically going into a branch. All online accounting was blocked, no payments can go into the account as they are bounced back to the sender.0 -

No, £6 credit0 -

Thanks friendlyfoe, banks really should have a process in place, I can’t be the only one this has happened to!0 -

No arrears , £6 credit.
i requested The account was frozen / blocked so my ex couldn’t build up an overdraft (and leave me with it) no outgoing or incoming payments can be made without going into branch.0 -
Try raising a formal complaint with Lloyds. They have to reply, and if it is not to your satisfaction take it to the ombudsman. It is easy to do.0
