Dear All
Thank you for your comments,
How shall I start? Anyway some comments are valued,
I just want to say some of the comment were like do the job properly, to those I want to say that Those days are gone now when you were going to work and sit whole time and come back, security job has massively changed now over the time, now there are more responcibilities added to it, in fact some security firms are hungry just to gain the contract they will accept any terms with the client and then expect the security staff to fulfil those terms.
What I disagree with is security job has massively changed in a sense that al most anything and everything they have added into it, on a site anything which other people are not doing it they make this part of security job, they have added admin work, facilities work, gritting the site, some cleaning the site, and lots of other tasks and list goes on and on, I disagree with this. OK in a nut shell why someone join a security firm is to be paid low wages and less responsibilities, so wage justify the responsibilities, but when it goes to opposite way then this is not fair. In my situations it has gone opposite way that more responsibilities but less pay. Just to add for some of you who does not know, I mainly work nights 12 hours shift and there is no night allowance its just a flat rate and just some pence above the minimum wage.
The ones of you who think that security is all about watching the top gear or movies are to watch on site now a days is not possible because they have installed cctv cameras where you are based, or even if there is no camera you just get no time for these things because they keep you that busy that you just don't get time.
I note you have not had the courtesy to answer the questions posed to you.
If your arguement is simply its not fair, then welcome to adulthood. I can think of many things that are a lot more unfair than turning off a light.

You may think this has only happened to security work, but I assure you that it has also happened in many other jobs too....security job has massively changed in a sense that al most anything and everything they have added into it, on a site anything which other people are not doing it they make this part of security job, they have added admin work, facilities work, gritting the site, some cleaning the site, and lots of other tasks and list goes on and on, I disagree with this.
Sorry to hear you're feeling unhappy with your role - ultimately only you can take control of your situation.0 -
Op, strip the meat from the bones, what is your real gripe?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
-
What documents did you have in place before (eg terms of your contract, Job description) ?
If they are changing those terms then you might have some leverage.0 -
I'm pretty certain your job description will include a phrase stating something along the lines of "and any other duties as may reasonably be required"
What you've been told to do fits within that clause in my opinion.0 -
I'm afraid this all fits in the category of that's life, get over it. If the company don't get the contract, you don't have any job to do, whether it's a job you like or not. And I'm not really worried about whether you get time to watch movies because I think most employers think they employ you to work on their business, so it's their opinion on work that matters, not what your agree with.Dear All

There has, however, always been a strategy for workers who don't agree with their employers. Get another one that agrees with you. If you can't or won't do that, then I'm afraid it's bad luck. Lots of people are fulfilling responsible jobs and multitasking for minimum wage or not much more. It's not fair? This isn't a playground, it's real life. You want something you fight for it. Speak to your union. Not in one? Then you're on your own. The employer may not be taking home any prizes for generosity or greatness, but they are operating within the law and expecting you to do the job that needs doing. The alternatives are fight back, put up with it, or find another job. Just like everyone else.0 -
To be fair the op didn't mention watching the TV. That was me thinking back to bygone daysAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0

Eight miles in a shift? Might be an issue in an icy winter but I sometimes walk (checks) 2.8 miles to a pub in the local town to meet friends and then walk back. 40-45 minutes there and a bit more (!) on the way back.
Frankly, if you've a long shift having something to do should make it go a bit quicker. Let's face it, security isn't something you do as a career but something to do for the money, flexibility and lack of training necessary.
Get stuck in to it and maybe you'll get to be a supervisor or get a good reference for your next job "enthusiastic team worker, sorry to lose etc" .
At the moment you're just making yourself miserable.0 -
Security can be a strange job..and it makes me chuckle how everyone seems to think going from 2 miles a night to 8 miles is nothing.
How many miles do you all do walking from your desk to the coffee machine or how tiring it must be reach and pick up a phone all day.
So unless you have done the job of the OP is it your place to mock...really.
I've been there and done it and hitting the dystar points or the GPS we use now days can be extremely hard work, walk 8 miles around your office, easy isn't it...walk 8 miles around a building site..or out doors...maybe up and down stairs.
OP id look else where mate..plenty of work going.0
