Name and Shame your Smart Meter Supplier Share your experiences

From which supplier please ?
It is possible that a prepayment meter which is a smart meter set in prepay mode, can be forcibly fitted to a property. These meters will have the occupiers debts set on the meter with a weekly debt to be paid
That is not the same thing as a smart meter in credit meter mode being forced onto an occupier. Smart meters are not mandatory.
Also if someone has an old credit meter and refuses point blank to allow the supplier to change it I suppose a supplier could force fit a new one, smart or dumb, with a warrant, rather then cut the person off
It really isn't nice to accuse a long standing member who shares what happened to a relative.
If you took the time to read before jumping on the keyboard you will see she said SSE
Should we assume you work for the industry with all your excuses for them ?0 -
Who is accusing anyone of anything ? I just find it unacceptable for any supplier to be sending out any letters with an implied threat of a warrant merely to fit a smart meter. I missed the SSE bit, but as one of the respected big 6 suppliers they would be one of the last suppliers to try that stupid tactic. There are instances where occupiers constantly refuse to allow a new meter to fitted, smart or dumb when a meter reaches end of life, and it then becomes a question of cutting them off or obtaining a warrant. This would take many many advanced letters and calls l before a supplier dished out aggressive letters like that.It really isn't nice to accuse a long standing member who shares what happened to a relative.

I personally led both British Gas and Npower a merry dance when they kept visiting me to fit a new electric smart meter which went on for over two years. eventually they had the sense to come on Saturday as I refused to lose my own money taking time off in weekdays.
No aggressive letters about warrants from both suppliers. I would have switched supplier immediately if they tried that trick
I ve certainly come across cases where occupiers point blank refused to admit a meter fitter myself. Some people just do not like visitors entering their homes for any reasons
I am suggesting only that there was a possible mix up in what sort of meter that SSE intended to fit because I find it totally unacceptable and illegal that SSE would try anything like that .
Yes you can assume I work in the industry, I dont hide that fact, so what !
I m not biased to any suppliers or the utility industry , you have had me banging on here ad nauseum on here for years condemning awful Secure Liberty meters but I quite like smart meters in general.
..They make a lot of sense in a few areas and not just for the certainty of correct and efficient billing for everyone.
In the long run the smart meter program will pay for itself ten times over and reduce everyones bills when the suppliers can run their businesses cheaper and more efficiently then pass on the reduced costs0 -
You seem a tad sceptical Houbara;...this incident may change your opinion. Are you absolutely sure of that comment about taking a warrant out merely to fit a boring old smart meter ?.Sounds like absolute total rubbish to me and the sort of stuff that https://www.Stopsmartmeters.co. would lie about on their website..Can you name the supplier stupid enough to try that sort of tactic ?
Suppliers only get interested in obtaining warrants for people who refuse to accept a prepayment meter when they owe a few thousand pounds and make little effort repaying or the occupier is engaged in meter tampering.
A few weeks ago a white van drew up outside my house and out stepped 4 burly men in white boiler suits;...on the side of the van it said ‘Smart Meter Team’;...or something like that.
When I answered the knock at my door the burly men immediately tried to rush inside;...I fought desperately to keep them out but I was eventually overpowered.
I was then tied-up and held at knife-point (well,...Philips screwdriver point actually) and was forced to watch helplessly for 2 hours while these energy industry ‘thugs’ replaced my beloved old meters with their odious new ‘Smart meters’.
All the while they muttered threats like “don’t tell anyone about this”...”we know where your children live”...”we know which schools your grandchildren go to”...”if you don’t leave a good review on TrustPilot we’ll be back”...etc etc.
It was a terrifying and deeply traumatic experience;...I’m a broken man.:(
And to rub salt into the wound they didn’t even teach me how to use the little in-Home Display unit,..they left me to figure it out for myself;...now that’s just unprofessional.
Some energy companies will do anything to meet their Smart meter installation targets;...there isn’t a boundary they won’t cross.0 -

Ha ha ha - tears are running down my cheeks :rotfl:ANY savings will end up in Directors' bonuses and (maybe) shareholders' divis.0 -
Incorrect ! its been proved over in Northern Ireland where the smart keypad success resulted in the cheapest tariffs for smart keypad users.brewerdave wrote: »Ha ha ha - tears are running down my cheeks :rotfl:ANY savings will end up in Directors' bonuses and (maybe) shareholders' divis.
Suppliers prefer the smart prepay meters because of the lower running costs. They are more reliable than the old prepay meters. Northern Ireland is far more advanced than the rest of the UK with smart keypad meters. They are the dreaded Liberty Secure 100 meters actually
The OP is also proving it by highlighting the problems of faulty prepay meters which suppliers find difficulty in sorting out. There are costs to them to keep sending out meter readers to try and get them working, and failing half the time, constantly.
Economy Energy would have to pay approx £50 to a contractor such as MDS , my company , to deal with problems, and its still not yet resolved with the OP by the sound of it.
..We are always going out to try and deal these old prepays , they re hopeless, and often get damaged with occupiers ramming cards or keys into the slots etc
Just like the smart meter roll out all these added expenses in running the business eventually get passed onto the customers or more likely nowadays suppliers running the business with lowest costs just go bust. Economy Energy may well be the next one .To add insult to injury OP they have just raised their SVT up 11 %, so they are not even cheap any more.
Smart prepayment meters don t breakdown all the time like the old ones do0 -
E.on - I've had my SM E7 for about 18 months. I now want a standard meter for my new GCH and they are going to charge me 65.00 to change meters
I don't think i will go back to a smart meter i saw no benefit to be honest 0 -

If your present meter is a smart meter then Eon can remotely change any details on the Eco7 meter and that includes moving it from Eco 7 to single rate tariff.E.on - I've had my SM E7 for about 18 months. Smart meters might not be a benefit to you as the customer, but what counts is that its a benefit to the supplier which is far more important. That is the whole point of smart meters despite what the adverts say.
A bit like self service tills at Tescos !0
