Car warranty expired on replacement engine. Replacement engine now died
Hello
My partner has just received the news that her VW Golf GT TSi has just died. This comes 15 months after the engine was replaced with a new/re-conditioned engine because the one before that had a snapped cam belt!
She had bought the car in August 2016 from a dealership and the cam belt snapped in November. There were a chronology of events that happened which would be too much to outline, but it it was an absolute terrible service that they offered and treated her quite poorly. 4 months later, min march 2017, she got the car back, with a years warranty. This was after a succession of phone calls, emails, complaints and hire cars included.
Last weekend, the car started to jolt and it was presumed the coils had gone. We took it to the garage and whilst we were on holiday we got the bad news. One of the cylinders has lost compression with suspected piston rings fault and the turbo is on its way out. The garage quoted us £2400 for a second hand engine, inc labour. It really is not worth it for the money and where we have been with it before.
It was advised to me that i dealership who sold the car and arranged to replace the engine originally. So I contacted them and of course they said they couldn't anything bout it because its out of warranty. They did advise that i contact the garage who actually did the engine work, which i haven't.
The car was serviced the end of April this year, with no outlining faults at the time.
What are my rights in this? Could i send a letter of complaint to the dealership and garage threatening the use of the ombudsmen to investigate. Should the dealership take the car back?
Tom

Who fitted the replacement engine? The supplying dealer or a garage that you paid yourself?0

Second hand engine was warranted for a year and has done 15 months. Your complaint is !!!8230;.?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
