Some things never change, right down to the cliched phraseology! ;)

I checked with Experian and have the maximum score of 999.
I'm switching from Santander, who I've been with for 20 years and would be putting all of my income into the Advance account

I suspect they just don't want to open any more accounts as they don't want to fork out for any more £125 rewards for new customers. That was the main reason for my switch
When will people get the fact that the "999" score mean nothing to any bank or lender. It is not a figure they see.

No want they want is customers who have a solid income that is more than enough to cover the monthly requirements. They do not want people who are simply going to cycle the same money round various bank accounts.
They are very good at sniffing out people that are just switching to get the £125 and then will not use the account.

Perhaps your income does not meet the requirements for a "qualify for a minimum £1,000 arranged overdraft (you won't have to have an overdraft if you don't want one)"
As it is part of the qualifying criteria.

I got refused for a HSBC Advance account. The salesperson said it was because I had a current account with another bank.
If you didn't have an account with another bank how would they expect you to take advantage of their recent switch offer?

Sounds like a nonsense reason to me.

I applied for an HSBC Advanced account on behalf of my wife and put her income as £10000
, which is her pension income and she was accepted.
  • I was refused a HSBC account a few times before finally being accepted.

I ended up having to go in branch and sorting it all out. The nice lady was like oh you've applied a few times.

    Yes you could say that.

...and presumably you'd then be taking a lot of it back out again because why, other than perhaps £250 for their regular saver, would you leave anything in there other than that month's spending.
  • Never had an issue getting a HSBC account, I have had two. Never understood this talk of them being picky.
  • I was considering attempting to switch to an HSBC Advance account to take advantage of the switching bonus, now I've used all of the cinema vouchers attached to my 'Club Lloyd's' account but after reading about the criteria being very notorious for being 'picky', I don't think I want the dubious honor of being refused an account by a banking company.

That’s odd because don’t you need £1750 a month or something to open one?
