My father is recently deceased and I have come across a cheque from he was given in 1992 for over £85,000. I am the administer of his estate and not sure what I should now do with the cheque. Would welcome some advice.

Whatever you want. The chances of being able to cash it now are zero I'm afraid.
You could try and speak to the person/company who wrote the cheque, but it's unlikely they will be willing to part with £85,000 all these years later.0 -
If you tell us who the cheque was drawn on it would give us a clue.
For example if it was say an inheritance and drawn on a solicitors account then they may be able to help you.
On the other side of course he could have informed the drawer that the cheque was lost and a new one issued at the time.
If it was a settlement of a debt then it is statute barred.
Keep us updated as how you get on.0 -
Was he of sound mind 26 years ago? Seems remiss not to have banked a life changing amount, maybe 2 or 3 times that in today's money.Ethical moneysaver0

Thanks. I think it was a compensation payout possibly related to the GLC when they were in authority over London. Looking into it. I am more concerned how it should be reflected against his estate at the moment. Thank you.0

I was questioning the same thing. My brother thinks it is a possibility that he did just sit on it and he may have wanted to hide it at the time and then lost track of it. Though you would have to try very hard to misplace a cheque of that size.0
