BT discount for landline without broadband

For various historical reasons I have two landlines into my home. One is used for broadband and I pay for the line as part of my package with Plusnet, and only use it for a small number of calls. The second line is with BT and is used for calls - here the mobile signal is very poor with all networks.
I have asked BT if I could get the 'no broadband' discount on the line I use for calls but they told me that because I have broadband into the house however it is delivered I am not entitled. I believe if my broadband came over satellite, wireless or virgin coax then i would get the discount.
Has anyone else managed to get the discount for a second land line?

When this discount for telephony only lines was first announced , there was some confusion around someone Virgin broadband , could someone with VM get the Ofcom mandated cheap line rental with BT , if the BT line was telephony only, but it turns out that they way this is being interpreted is that any form of 'broadband' over a fixed network, VM or OR ( and presumably anyone with service from smaller Alt Nets ) doesn't qualify.
You definitely don't qualify , as you have Plusnet broadband....I suppose the real question is why have 2 lines at all, just make the calls you would make on the BT line, from the Plusnet one.0 -
You can have a discount. If you do not have BT Broadband you are entitled to BT Home Phone Saver. This currently costs £21.99 per month and the price is guaranteed for another two years. The deal includes line rental, unlimited anytime calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers and to 0845 and 0870 numbers. The deal also includes caller display, voicemail and a nunber of other features at no extra charge.0

This isn't a bad deal, if the OP wants calls included, I suspect the deal they have become aware of is the Ofcom mandated £11.99 one, (a £7 discount if the user has no fixed line broadband, from any provider), and the OP doesn't qualify as they have a fixed line broadband from Plusnet , albeit on a separate (2nd) line.0 -
Thank you for that suggestion, Home Phone Saver is lower cost than my current plan. If I were to change to that, do you know if I would be able to retain the legacy (no longer available) 'Friends and Family Mobile' discount, as that currently saves me significantly more than I would gain moving to Home Phone Saver.0

get with the times op
If you pay most providers £8/month they pay for most of your calls (including mobile (except BT))
try and get down to one line.
£4 at EE all would pay for all landline calls (owned by BT)0 -

HPS has a large number of calling features included free of charge, features that have to be paid for with UA. Note, however, that unlike UA, the HPS deal does NOT have half-price calls to mobile numbers - but there are still plenty of alternative ways to get free calls to mobile numbers.Thank you for that suggestion, Home Phone Saver is lower cost than my current plan.
