Eon Final bill

Hello,
We've switched from Eon Energy to Out fox the market for our electricity and gas. The switched happened on May 23. I submitted our opening meter readings to Out Fox the Market and have been billed and debited already for May and June.
I sent a message to Eon to enquire about our final bill early this week as our account was in debit for £190+ (for Jan. 20-Apr. 20) and I've included the meter reading for April 21-May 21 (same as the one I submitted to Out fox the market), they've not debited our account for June which we were expecting them to but haven't had any reply from their customer service about it. Do they normally take ages to produce a final bill?
Reading about the negative experiences of switching from Eon has got me worried that they would mess us around as well.

Yes, the figure that you gave to your new supplier have to be validated by a third party and will then get passed to EoN.
That could take a couple of weeks. When EoN have agreed the readings with the new supplier they should then produce your final bill which could take around six weeks.
So if you changed over on 23rd May it's not likely that you'll see a bill until the end of June or even mid JulyNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

Hello orangesnaps and sorry to lose you.
As matelodave says, I suspect we're waiting for the opening readings from your new supplier. It's the new supplier that drives the switch. They send us their opening readings and we use these to close our account and issue the final bill. This makes sure the same energy isn't charged twice. The readings go through a third party (Data Collector) who checks they're in line with previous readings held for the property. Sometimes a change is made and both suppliers need to use the same readings.
We aim to send final bills within 32 working days of the transfer date. If you've registered with our website for paperless billing, we'll put the final bill online and send an email to let you know.
If there's an active Direct Debit, we'll refund any credit balance directly to your bank usually within 7 days of the final bill date. Should there be anything left to pay, we'll collect this as a one-off Direct Debit. We'll let you know when we're going to do this on the final bill.
Don't worry if there isn't an active Direct Debit. Here, we'll refund any credit by cheque within 10 days of the final bill. If there's money owing, there are various ways to pay including online through our website or mobile app. Alternatively, you can pay by card over the phone from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 6pm Saturdays.
Hope this explains orangesnaps. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

Thanks for the info! We never had any issues with Sainsbury's energy when we switched to Eon so we didn't really worry about our final bill unlike with Eon.0

Hello Malc, Is there any reason why Eon hasn't debited our account for June?
Is it okay to put some money towards clearing the debit (£193) so the final bill isn't a shocker. I've roughly calculated the amount for April-May based on the meter reading and it should be no more than £70+
I've had issues with making a one time payment when it was on direct debit and companies like 3 mobile still push the scheduled direct debit through even though the balance is £0 and sufficient time for the funds to clear the balance. Is that going to be the same with Eon or can we make a payment in the meantime?
Thank you.0 -

My official leave date with EON was June 6 and I've got my final bill today. All very smooth.0

We just got our final bill-estimate today although I don't know why they estimated our gas usage when I've submitted both gas and electricity meter readings to outfoxthemarket and the details are in our online account there as well as to my email to Eon. It says on the bill that it will be taken on the 25th of June so I'll hold off on any one off payments as I don't want a repeat of the payment debacle that happened with 3 mobile when I paid it off, it cleared weeks before the direct debit was supposed to go through and 3 mobile still push the direct debit through and so I had to chase them to get my money back.0

The reason why estimated readings are used is because the only readings used on a transfer of supply are those given to the gaining supplier. These go through an industry validation process and the readings may be adjusted slightly based on your historic usage data. The verified readings HAVE to be used by the gaining and losing suppliers to open and close your accounts. When switching suppliers there is no need to inform the losing supplier that you are leaving nor do you need to give them readings.

Eon's final bill estimate said that if that actual readings are different to their estimates is to inform the new supplier about and so I've messaged outfox the market but I'm not expecting a reply until at least Monday. I've checked our gas meter and we haven't even reached that estimate yet. They used the meter reading for the electricity so why not the gas as well. It's just a few pounds but it's the principle. If they challenge it, I have proof that it is the correct data as I always take photos of the meter readings just in case something happen unfortunate like this happens.
I haven't felt the need to do that when we switched from Sainsbury's energy to Eon (and the previous switch before that) but because of our experience with them I wanted to cover all our bases so we don't get a nasty surprise.0 -

Hello orangesnaps and thank you for the additional information.
Hengus has already posted some excellent advice. Thanks Hengus. I know things have moved on but just to confirm, once a switch is underway and the new supplier has been in touch, accounts are locked down and no further payments are taken until the final bill has been issued. As Hengus says, payments outside of this arrangement can be made through the link posted or by card over the phone.
As I mentioned on Friday and Hengus confirms, the only readings used are those coming from the gaining supplier via the Data Collector. As these readings aren't yours or from a meter reader, they're shown as estimated. Sometimes the Data Collector will make a change and both supplies need to use the these amended readings to open/close their accounts.
It looks like this has happened with your gas. The change can be challenged through an industry wide procedure known as an Agreed Reads Dispute (ARD). Here, the two suppliers re-agree opening/closing readings and re-submit them. Before an ARD can be used, the difference needs to be above set thresholds. For gas, the difference needs to be greater than 45 units for a 4-dial imperial meter or 125 units if it's a 5-dial metric meter. Should the difference be less than these thresholds, an ARD can't be used and the readings will remain as they are now. Totally understand, if below the threshold, it'll mean paying one supplier for more kWh than expected. This will be balanced out by paying the other for less kWh than thought.
Raising a ARD will put the account into dispute and delay when we collect the debit balance. Without an ARD, we'll do this as advised on our final bill on 25 June 18.
Sorry to lose you orangesnaps and hope this explains.
