Using nuts as spacers for M8 bolts?

I have a new Samsung TV that I'm looking to put onto an existing wall mount that.
It needs M8 bolts however the 2 sizes that came with the bracket are either slightly too short (approx 18mm) when taking into consideration thickness of the bracket, or too long (40mm) leaving about 10mm gap between the bracket and the tv.
Ideally I need a 20mm M8 bolt which annoyingly my local Homebase doesnt do, so would it be OK/safe to use M8 bolts and a washer as 'spacers' and secure it that way?
TIA

Should not really be a problem with washers under the bolt head. M8 bolts are more than strong enough to support a tv even with a 20mm overhang. Not very neat solution though!
Alternatively cut the bolt to desired length (ensuring threads are smooth at the cut) or buy some off well known web suppliers or other hardware stores -there will usually be specialists to serve trade customers in your area......or I'll send you a couple:)!!0 -
I did this. Samsung basically want you to buy their wall mounting kit, which comes with the correct size bolts. I don't remember the length of the bolts but I ended up using longer ones and then adding washers for spacers. My TV was put on to a mount attached to a TV stand but it's the same principle and as long as you tighten up securely, it should be fine.0

1. Put nut on 40mm bolt, screw up close to head of bolt.
2. Cut off last 20 mm of thread.
3. Unscrew nut to just after end of cut thread on shortened bolt to clear thread.
4. Screw nut back to near head of bolt.
5. file jagged bits off end of bolt, and chamfer a little.
6. Repeat 3.
7. Repeat 4,5,3 until thread is good. (Try another nut onto it to make sure).0 -
Managed to find chunky spacers to fit the 40mm M8 bolts, plus a few washers just in case I needed to make up more ground!
Will give it a go this eve. Damn Samsung..0 -

Just do this.0
