New kitchen- gloss or Matt doors?

Morning. We will be ordering our new kitchen from DIY kitchens shortly and can’t decide on the doors.
We’ve visited the showroom, which is 3 hours from us so not very local!

We keep changing our minds, I worry that I’ll be constantly wiping down gloss units but I do like the look of them. I also like the Matt but worried about them looking dated...... I’m very confused and don’t want to make a mistake.

Almost anything is going to date on some level, but if anything I think it's gloss that's dating at the moment.

I've had a matt kitchen for six years and I think we were ahead of the curve. I'm a fan of different textures and find a matt kitchen just that bit softer in a room full of generally shiny gadgetry.

Mix them up a bit and have both. They don't all have to be the same. Have fun with them.
Gloss ones will reflect light but will show up marks.

Gloss will date, matt is timeless. Think of traditional wooden kitchens, think of shaker kitchens - both are timeless and both are generally matt.

Gloss only ever came in as a deliberate built in obsolence!

I have a DIY-Kitchens kitchen which is 8 years old and as good as new. I have a painted finish so I can always repaint the doors.
If in doubt send for a sample, I think they are about £5 each but if you return them you get your money back.

    Have the preference of YOURSELF.

Im doing mine just now, had similar thoughts and have done gloss four times before, black, red, white, cream - so that's what it will be, again.

Island in light green, wall units in light grey. Can always be changed at later date, as it's ikea.

I did chose matt light grey, for utility room, so will see if visitors comment.

The fact you typed a little g and a big M in your title tells you all you need to know about how you have subconsciously already made your decision.

We recently moved into a house with a hi-gloss kitchen, we think about 5 years old. On 50% of the fronts, the gloss coating is no longer attached to the MDF and is falling off. I am assured by the suppliers who came to measure for a new one that this doesn't happen any more, but it's enough to make us wary of ordering another gloss one.

Matt. Life's too short to be endlessly wiping marks off kitchen units.

Or it was typed on a phone and defaulted to a capital M as Matt is a name :)

My advice would be to go for matt.

I know 2 people who had gloss finish - one about 7 years ago and one about 3 years ago but both have now some degree of delamination where the film is no longer stuck to the door properly. Both have had new doors replaced by the supplier but why have the hassle?
