honda civic horn problem for MOT

 hi, i drive a honda civic 95, which is due for MOT soon, but recently the horn stopped working. basically for a while it either worked or not... well mainly it did but sometimes it didnt, and now it seems to have stopped altogether. Has anyone got any idea what can be wrong? can it just be a fuse? and can it be expensive to put right? I know there may be many reasons, but any ideas?? thanks

If it was intermittent, it's unlikely to be the fuse, but that should be easy enough to check. Get your handbook and find out where the fusebox is. The handbook, or inside the fusebox, should tell you which fuse is used for the horn - if it's shared with other electrical items, check if one of them still works. If it does, it isn't the fuse that's the problem. Otherwise remove the fuse and replace it with one of the same rating - there may be a spare one in the fusebox, otherwise, swop it with another one. If the horn still doesn't work, then it isn't the fuse. Could be the horn itself or the switch on the horn button. Neither should be terribly expensive.

thanks charlie, yes I will check the fuse, dont think it is that for exactly the reason you mention, I think that it may be a loose connection somewhere as it kept playing up before, before totally stopping, so I just hope it wont be expensive :)

    Check connections on horn itself.

Most are situated, for obvious reasons, somewhere in front the radiator, here they catch all the wet and salt, hence corroded/dirty connections.

A simple volt meter can be useful, or even a simple 12vbulb/bit of wire to see if voltage is reaching horn.
    Move along, nothing to see.
