Intestate - do nieces and nephews inherit?

Uncle died intestate a year ago (no wife, children or parents) leaving £800,000 to his two brothers. Sadly one of the brothers died recently before the uncle's estate was finalised/distributed. The estate is shared equally between the brothers or sisters.

If a brother or sister has already died, their children (nieces and nephews of the deceased) inherit in their place.

But the brother didn't die until after the first death so this doesn't apply.
