Problems with Windows Installer

A few weeks ago I tried to remove Corel photo album that came already installed on my Dell laptop. Ever since then, every time I boot up, I get the Windows Installer pop appearing, and it takes my machine around ten minutes to sort its self out. I am not sure if this is related to my removing Corel, or if the timing is coincidental.

I have tried running registry mechanic, adware SE and have AVG installed, in case it is a virus or adware related problem, but it has not prevented the problem.

Can anyone suggest what the problem is please, and how to resolve it?

Many thanks

Thanks for that, but it seems that is more for when Windows installer can#t be found.

Any other suggestions, cos this (and the difficulty of getting on to this site at the mo) is getting to me!!

    Thanks

  • Bumped, cos still having problems. My main gripe is this happens on booting up, and it takes about 10 minutes to sort out. It is making the pc very slow to start, although once running everything is fine.

    Any more suggestions?

    Thanks

Seconded - download and run the tool then look for any mention of the Corel program. Worth creating a System Restore point before you do this as well as having a good quality backup..
  • Hi all.

Run both the microsoft support and the tune up proramme, and nothing has changed. Still the same problem. It is getting to me now! More becasue of the 10 minutes it takes to boot, and I can't start Firefox/Outlook or anything until the installer has finished running.

    Any more suggestions?!?!?

    Thanks

  • Are you brave?

fire up msconfig & go to the startup tab, if anything on the list mentions corel disable it.

run regedit & search for anything that mentions Corel & delete it.

Reboot & it should be gone.

  • Are there any messages in the System Event Viewer?

Right click on My Computer -> Manage -> 'Event Viewer' (or some such) then choose System and tell us whether there are any red cross icons and the messages they quote
