Switching suppliers headache

I am currently with E.On for both gas and electricity, staying with the supplier the previous owners were with when we moved around a year ago.
About 6 months ago I tried switching to another supplier and while I understand the Gas would have switched, the electricity was problematic so neither moved.
The company told me the MPAN number for our meter does not match our address. The address is still the same as the builders registered with (so temporary address bearing little resemblance to current street name and postcode), 15 years ago!

My understanding is I can't change the address with the Network operator (DNO), that needs done by E.On. I contacted E.On about it when I tried to change last time and was informed they would change it with the DNO. The customer service person on the phone reported they had passed it onto a supervisor and I requested a phone call/email to confirm it was done. I've never had that email. I confess I gave up and just left it.

I'm about to try changing again before E.On force me onto a tariff that's higher than I can get elsewhere and will cost me to leave. Has anyone ever successfully got E.On to change the address or other information attached to the MPAN or is this going to be a world of pain and take a year to sort or, meanwhile I am conveniently, for them, stuck with E.On?

EON should be able to request it. It takes 28 days.

If you go onto the EON site and request a quote, you can see the address and meter numbers which is very useful. This will give you an Idea of whether it was fixed.

The other trick is to give the new supplier the same address as EON use and on national database.
Your switch should then go through smoothly.

p.s EON had some good deals a month or so ago. So if they are only £~15 a year more it would be an easier life to stay with them for now!

Hello skinnyrascal and welcome to the Forums.

You're right, as your current supplier, it's up to us to amend your address details with the regional distributor and the National Electricity Database. I'll be happy to do this for you.

Please email the address in my Profile with your full postal address including the Post Code, account number, meter serial number (from the electricity meter and not your bills) and your date of birth.

As AndyPK says, it can take up to 28 days to go through. Once everything matches, you'll be able to change supplier.

Look forward to hearing from you skinnyrascal.
