I have received my deadlock letter from British Gas so now I can go to the ombudsman.

Has anyone had any cases with the ombudsman, and had a good outcome?

British Gas have Nearly blown my house up twice, while leaving me with two gas leaks in the property, No heating or hot water for over a week - 9 engineers, One of which was awful, No communication letters, 4 complaints. And now the latest is my Electric meter which is a pre payment meter, and has been since I switched to them, they even sent me their BG key, and I have been using it with no problems, But then got a bill for the electric, when I spoke to them they said that I am not on a key meter but on a credit meter!!:mad: I have all the emails to say that I had set the swap up as a prepayment meter not a credit meter, Now I am nearly three weeks in and still hasn't been sorted.

I have made serveral complaints, but i have got no where - BG said that they will put the complaint to deadlock, which i agreed to, On the letter it says they tried to reslove the matter, Which they didnt at all, All we got was they sent a letter, that was it! Which they didnt at all, and we havent even had an appoligie for the two gas leaks that had been left in our property!

Im hoping the Ombudsman will be able to help out, But i have never used them before so unsure how it works..

The Ombudsman Service is one of arbitration. On receipt of your complaint, it will launch an investigation which will take about 8 weeks. On completion of the investigation, it will publish a Decision which, if you accept, is binding on the supplier. The supplier then has 4 weeks to implement the Decision. If you do not accept the Decision, then the complaint is effectively closed. This doesn’t stop you going to Court to claim damages.

In sum, you need to think through what it is you are looking for at the end of the process. The Ombudsman is not known for paying out large sums in compensation. It follows that if you feel that you have incurred large costs then you might be better going to The Small Claims Court. It is also worth getting your ‘ducks in row’ before going to The Ombudsman. Under GDPR, you can now raise a Subject Access Request against BG at no cost to you. The information released may assist you in taking forward your complaint.

Dont forget the reports from the Fire Service and the Police on these explosions . Plus your insurance companies estimate of the damage to aid your case .

If you're going to try the Ombudsman at least make it credible. Presumably from your previous posts you still have a significant debt to BG and I'd have expected that to have some bearing on BG's actions

OMG I did not proof read this before I press submit!! They didn't blow my house up twice :( The nearly blew the house up! With the Gas leaks, that had been left, one on the Gas meter itself, and One on the boiler where the valve was left Open - had I of not been at home they it could have been a lot worse.

Note to self re read before pressing the button..

I'm not looking for a major payout as such, More that I feel they should compensate the money I have lost through the gas leaks - nearly £20 worth of gas gone, and the fact that the problems they have caused us anyway through no fault of our own.

In the first quarter of this year, 970 domestic BG customers took their complaint to the energy ombudsman.
That is almost 10% of all complaints by domestic customers the energy ombudsman received.

I do not know the outcome of those complaints, but feel some at least will have a "good outcome" i.e. where the energy ombudsman will uphold in part or in full the complaint made.

Based purely on statistics, I think there would be an investigation into the energy ombudsman themselves it it turned out they were rejecting each and every complaint against British Gas, don't you?
