Objecting to Planning Application

An application has been made for residential development close to my home and I registered an objection via the official planning website.

The website withholds the email of anyone lodging an objection, but not their address. I received a letter left through my letter box when the building surveyor called (unannounced), though I was not at home. The letter states the surveyor wanted to discuss how they could address my concerns.

I have no background in planning matters or architecture (I have not lodged an objection before). Would I be best to keep any matters related to this through the formal planning website?

The letter also contains the surveyor's e-mail and phone number.

Thanks.

The surveyor isn't linked to the planning office. The planning officer isn't going to negotiate on your behalf. They're going to interpret policy.

I think you'd be cutting your nose to spite your face if you don't speak to the developer who is trying to address your concerns.

You don't need to know about planning. There's a reason you objected. They want to know if there's something they can do to allay your fears.

    Speak to them.
