Full wash with a few items or quick wash and do full wash at weekend?

Ok I live alone and tend to wear a pair of jeans for up to a week, t shirt I used to wear one for 2 days max then use another but each time for past week I just handwashed it in washing up liquid when I feel it has a hint of smell, apart from that I only have 2 or 3 pairs of clean underwear left (and some handwashed ones but don't want to wear them, it was just so I didn't have dirty underwear lying around)

Im going away on Monday for 4 nights, Im thinking if I do a full wash tonight or in morning then at max I will do another wash 4 days later of max 2 t shirts, pair of jeans, and 4 pairs of underwear seems a waste.

Also jeans I hate doing full washes often so the dye doesn't run.

Outside of the underwear issue, I have plenty of spare t shirts so can just quick wash the t shirt, jeans and underwear in machine now its just the thought of quick washed underwear putting me off.

Or is that me overreacting?

Or shall I say do a cold wash and spin, again its the underwear that is putting me off.

Oh I couldn't quick wash undies. In fact I read somewhere recently that people generally don't save money using the quick wash because you often end up washing things twice. I do use my quick wash occasionally to freshen up my office clothes but that's it.

Do you have any towels or anything that you could chuck in to make it worth a proper wash?

I would never wash jeans with t-shirts and underwear, ever

So Id be sticking them in with coloured towels on a 60 wash if I only had the one pair to wash

Im more then happy to put lights on a quick 40, full or not. Life is too short to be hand washing and todays machines are designed to be energy efficient

Well I have a dressing gown and a bathmat I can chuck in but for both didn't want full wash on them, and maybe a kitchen towel but either way it would mean I have to do another full wash on Sunday before I leave just for jeans worn like 3 days and some underwear, the reason I say jeans, t shirt and underwear as they are all dark fabrics i.e no white or light blue underwear so if jeans do leak dye it won't ruin them.

So it seems back to square one, wash jeans on their own (in past I would of said rinse cycle but I don't have one on current machine) full wash which I hate doing for jeans but then no worries about t shirt and underwear but then do again on Sunday.

How old is your washing machine? If it's fairly new, read the manual. You may find that it senses how much washing is in there and adjusts the water level, wash time etc so a 'full wash' for 3 t-shirts and a 'full wash' for 5 bath towels would be completely different. If so, just do a full wash for what you have - you won't be wasting much and will cut out all this worrying.

I would be fairly confident that even a quick wash would be more effective than hand-washing unless you go to a lot of effort, so I'd be happy with a quick wash for undies... unless you have had a particularly nasty illness or a little accident!

My solution was to invest in more undies.

Mine too. One pair of jeans lasting say 5 days. 5 dark coloured undies (or 10 if you wear 2 a day). All can go in a fairly hot wash leaving t shirts to go in a quick wash.

I do have plenty of underwear but it seems to vanish, bought a 12 pack last year and got a 5 pack for Christmas but they always seem to vanish somewhere.

Washing machine im not sure age as it was in property when I moved and I took it with me in current move, id say at least 10 years old and it as a cold and hot water connection so not as new, works fine.

When I hand wash underwear I put it in hot water and swirl it for a while, then drain the water and put fresh stuff in swirl it and leave it for a hour, then have a short soak in cold water then drain the water off.
  • Just curious, why would you not wash jeans with tshirts and underwear?

If the jeans, t shirt and underwear is all dark and cotton, i cant see a problem with washing them altogether.

I wouldnt handwash pants. Id prefer to give them a hotter wash than my hands could bear.

Because I like to give jeans a 60 wash which would ruin more delicate t shirts, and my underwear, being of the main white cotton, gets a hot wash along with the bath towels

I hate the idea of dingy looking underwear
