#MSEStaycation - South

Options
Hey guys,

We're taking on board some feedback we've been getting on social media. Alot of our travel content seems to be very London focused. So we're starting a little series called #MSEStaycation to bring to everyone some of the top joints to visit around the UK and we need your help.

First up, we're covering the south of the UK, so send us over your best tips for someone
coming to the south on an #MSEStaycation including: how to
get there, where to stay, what to see/eat + any local gems you'd recommend.

Thanksssss :j

A staycation is where you stay at home for a holiday and have days out etc.

Are you suggesting that a holiday in the UK isn't a holiday?

Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

Not at all. We are clearly going with the angle that the UK is our home.

So, you thought the best place to post it would be on the "Overseas Holidays" sub-forum?

Take the train from Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour and visit the historic dockyard (Victory, Warrior, Mary Rose, etc.):

You can walk around the grounds without paying, but it's worth going on the ships, if your budget allows. There's even a shopping outlet nearby and lots of restaurants and the area is up and coming.

If you want to help Salisbury recover (again a train from Waterloo), visit there and check out the cathedral. It's possible to walk up the spire at times:

That's just a couple of ideas to start people off.

Well, since the BREXIT vote I feel that England has become a foreign country, and one that I would rather not visit. Thankfully Scotland remains its own self.

Do you include Lancaster as part of the South? After all, it is on the wrong side of the border with Scotland.

I think the sarcasm is lost on MSE Towers ...

However, I too thought that a staycation was staying in one's own house, and taking days out. Going elsewhere in the UK is a UK holiday.
