Sixt (Flizzr) Car Hire Rip Off!!

I recently took a trip to Ireland for a wedding and required transport from Dublin airport to the wedding venue, I looked at a few and seen the best deal through a broker, Rentalcars.com.

I took car hire with Sixt or Flizzr and it cost me £44 for 3 days hire, Brilliant right?

I then arrived to pick up my car and they required a £1500 deposit which had to be paid via credit card. I only had a £1000 limit and read on their website that deposits were accepted via debit card.

At the counter i was told that I couldnt pay the £1500 via debit card and that my only option was to pay £101.06p for full cover and a £100 deposit all from my debit card, as i was in Ireland and 100km away from our location we were stuck with no other option and that money is alot to us at the moment.

Ive contacted the broker who are acting as a go between and we are yet top hear back from Flizzr however i just want to get some advice/help to see where i stand, they have horrendous reviews which i regret not looking at before booking but ive learnt my lesson and similar scenarios seem to be common with these.

Any help advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

It is explained in their t and c

Not sure what it is you are after but I suspect you are on a losing battle

    Deposit and Credit card Information

ACCEPTED: American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard (not debit or prepaid), Visa (not debit or prepaid)
A deposit amount of EUR 1500.0 will be held against your credit card for the duration of the rental. Your deposit is a guarantee held in the event of damage/theft of the vehicle. This will be automatically released if there is no theft or damage during the rental period. Please note that this does not represent your total excess liability which can be found in the Insurance Coverage section.
NOT ACCEPTED: No other payment types will be accepted.
A valid credit card in the name of the lead driver must be presented at the rental desk in order to pre-authorise/charge a deposit. The credit card(s) must be embossed and a PIN number may be required.
In the event that you fail to present a valid credit card, there is a lack of sufficient funds available on the credit card or the credit card is not in the lead driver's name, the car rental agent may refuse to release the vehicle. In these instances, no funds paid will be reimbursed.

I agree with photome that it's very clear that they will reserve EUR 1500 on a credit card, I was also at Dublin airport for a hire with them recently and this is exactly what happened, and I was expecting it because I'd read the T&Cs beforehand.

No rip off. Just you not bothering to read the T&C beforehand.
Though not sure why they didn't offer you Indemnity Cover (OT)
Indemnity Cover reduces the amount of pre-authorization required.

The renter's responsibility for the excess level of the vehicle remains.

The cost of Indemnity Cover is as follows: 12.00 EUR per day.

So for the sake of 36 EUR, you could perhaps have used your credit card for the authorisation. They likely don't actually take the deposit, but the authorisation to charge the card in the event of an incident.

your all right, i didnt read the T&C's and only realised this when at the airport, however they do have an option to pay the deposit via debit card and their website states these payment methods are accepted - https://www.sixt.co.uk/rental-services/payment-methods/#c438357.

The only option I was given was to pay an additional 129 euros for full cover plus £100 deposit which they took from my debit card, its interesting to see that indemnity cover would have been an option, im disputing this all with the company so ill mention that, it was my fault for not reading the T&C'S but if other options were available they could have said this at the desk but the only option they gave was the one i mentioned.

You seem to be unclear at to whether your rental was with SIXT or Flizzr. You can't chop and change.
If with Flizzr, then you shouldn't be looking at the SIXT T&C.
    Prepaid Tariff

The following credit cards are accepted: Eurocard/MasterCard, American Express Card, VISA Card. We do not accept any prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron).

The renter must be the owner of the indicated credit card. The authorized driver details and method of payment will be confirmed at reservation stage and cannot be amended. The confirmed credit card should be valid and available for presentation on collection of the vehicle. All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card. By booking a prepaid rate, the credit card will be charged before the start of rental, directly with the estimated total amount of rental. The amount that will be charged on your credit card comprises the price of the rental as well as all additional extra fees.

The rental charge (plus any other charges agreed, e.g. exemptions from liability, delivery charges, airport charges etc.) plus Value Added Tax in the statutory amount applicable from time to time must, as a matter of principle, be paid in full for the agreed rental period, i.e. if the vehicle is collected late or returned early there shall be no refund.

I am confused, I book on rentalcars.com, payment went to Flizzr, i paid the additional payments to SIXT at the desk in Dublin. I emailed SIXT about these additional payments who advised me to contact Flizzr as it was not their booking, ive contact Flizzr and they havent responded, contacted SIXT as mentioned and also contacted Rentalcars.com who are in discussion with the relevant company about the booking.

So forgive me for being confused.

It looks like your booking was with Flizzr (they took the money) but in Dublin this is serviced through Sixt - quite common to see shared car hire desks between companies

Flizzr is a part of the SIXT group, like Firefly is part of Hertz.
I'm sure it states Flizzr on your paperwork and on your rental contract from Rentalcars.
You can't just choose the T&C that suits your argument.
Next time, hopefully, you will be more careful as to read the T&C.

It seems to me that the higher these duff companies make the possible excess payment the lower the cost will be for them to pay for normal insurance with the car.

Just finished hiring from Keddie/Europcar in Malpensa Italy.
Eu300 as a block on possible excess for a week's hire.

Car was brand new with 10 km on the clock.

Would use them again and recommend them.

They were the cheapest when missus did a comparison and there was no wait at the desk. The other car rental companies at the airport had massive queues so we wondered if we were doing something wrong.
    But all worked out OK.

Just a 2 month wait now to see if I accidentally drove into a Restricted Zone in Como.:o
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.
