BT Disconnection Charge £282.05!

Hi there, i could really do with some advice!

I set up a bt phone line a little over a month ago, since the flat i moved into already had a bt line that just needed re-activating, and then once that was working decided to get broadband and phone with talk talk. I have done this process before, as have many of my freinds, with no problems so i was surprised when i recieved a bill on saturday from bt saying that they are now going to charge me £282 of disconnection charges.

I dont really understand because i always thought that altough i deal with talk talk from now on, talk talk continue to pay bt for the line rental etc so i didn't realise i was really disconnecting the line. I don't mind paying a fee if i'm liable but £282 i just can't afford, and as far as i was aware disconnection fees are normally around £70? They are planning to take the payment out of my account on or around the 1st of November so i don't have long to sort this out, and after spending a frustrating 2hrs in a queue to bt today and not getting to talk to anyone i would just like to know where i stand on this one?!

I am begining to realise i am pretty niave about all this and i'm worried i have basically left myself vunerable to these hefty fines.

anyway i will try calling bt again tomorrow but if anyone has any input i would be really greatful, thanks!

  • Sounds like you had a special offer (knowingly or not) and so are being charged for it. Ask for the call to be listened to.

Oh, and Talk Talk dont pay BT Retail for the line, and thats who i charging you.

The cost is probably not for disconnection but the charges for the 12 or 18 month contract which you entered into and agreed to pay.
