well for a start you can delete anything with casino in the file. also anything with bestsellerantivirus in the file.
also stumbleupon? and all your 09 files.

you need to look at the security sticky at the top here and follow the advice there.
then run hijack again and repost.
    Get some gorm.

First of all you say in your initial post that HijackThis "....brought up the following list of potential problems...". No it didn't.

What it did was to list all the Running Processes on your computer and some of the run keys where malware (viruses, Trojans, spyware and so on) like to launch from.

You are right not to change anything with HJT unless advised to do so by a trained analyst.

The version of HJT you are using is very old and much out of date.

Please download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 here ……
    http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe
    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
DO NOT use the ”AnalyseThis” button. Its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System. Someone will guide you on what to do next.

In your next post please describe any problems or difficulties with your computer.

Thanks for that response and here is the updated report after following your instructions. The system is not displaying any obvious problem at the moment except for the fact that it is rather slow. I use firefox as my browser and when I boot up the system and select the firefox browser it takes around three to four minutes for the screen to display.

Log looks OK. Just a few things to fix.

Open HJT again ... click on scan ... put ticks next to these entries IF they are still present ...

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - !!0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)

Remember to close all open windows - including this one - before clicking on Fix Checked at the foot of the HJT window.

The "slowness" is one issue that bugs many people about XP. Firefox can take a while to load the first time after booting a computer but I have to agree that yours is an exceptionally long wait. There's not always a straight answer.

You could start by doing two things ....

1 . Click on Start > Run and type "msconfig" (without the quotes) in the dialogue box. Hit "OK".

Click on the "Startup" tab and look through the list of items starting when you boot your computer up.

Remove the tick/check marks for any Processes that are optional but be careful to leave Processes that are vital to your system.

    2. Use Ccleaner to clear out the general clutter we all build up when browsing the web and using files on the computer.

Get Ccleaner here but ensure you install it WITHOUT the optional Yahoo Toolbar download (you must untick/uncheck the relevant box on download) …

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

Run it on the default options and let it do its job.

By the way ... people sometimes ask if this HJT log entry is required ....

O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\nwprovau.dll

    It is.

You can read about it here .....

    http://www.castlecops.com/lsp-255.html

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/nwprovau.dll-13129.html

Finally, if you have any other suspected problems run through this before posting another HijackThis log .....
