Council Housing Advice

Hi
I am in a bit of situation where I am not sure what to do.
Basically I am currently living in a studio council flat where I am the only person on the tenancy and it is a single occupancy only. My boyfriend is staying with me as he is homeless, he used to live with his nan but they had an argument and he no longer lives with her so I said he could stay with me. We want to live together but I can't add him to my tenancy as it is not allowed, so we saved up money to try and go rent privately together but are being told we will need a guarantor which we do not have. It looks unlikely that we will be able to get a private flat together right now and we don't really know if we have any other options. Are we entitled to go on the council housing list? Would I get in trouble for allowing him to live with me even though he had no where to go? We just want to get a flat together where we both are on the tenancy but this seems so hard to do right now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at if you can get a swap? There are a number of home swapper sites you can put yourself on? That may be one option to look at.
Have you contacted your housing officer and asked for advise?0 -
Potentially, as you're over occupying. I suspect if or when the council found out they would insist he leave before applying for eviction. If you receive benefits there may be further complications. You will be allowed to have guests stay.Would I get in trouble for allowing him to live with me
Ask the council about a transfer or exchange.0 -
Here I am sole tenant but I have permission within the terms to have up to one person live with me. It might be worth looking at your tenancy agreement. Even if your partner can't go on the tenancy, you may be permitted to have him live with you. As for council housing, anyone can go on the list. The issue isn't the list, the issue is your position on the list. If you have a home and are not facing eviction your are at the lowest need.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

He should go cap in hand to his nan and beg to be allowed to return, then he should save his wages until he can buy or rent, then you can move in with him.0 -
I've have a neighbour above me that didn't state on their tenancy that anyone else would be there but they've got someone else and a dog and nothing's been done about it... They get their full tenancy in 2 weeks but I really don't think the councils bothered about it so long as they are getting money for the property!
I've now lost all faith in my council housing.Removed by Forum Team0 -

It will be a big move for you, make sure you are certain about leaving this council flat, they are not easy to get.0 -
There's no active link in my signature and i've read the forum rules.
Did you miss this bit then whilst reading?
Please don't try to subvert this rule by posting non-activated links (where the text is visible but not clickable), half-links to Twitter/Facebook pages, or suggesting a Google search; they'll be removed when reported.
Can you read it now it is bold and red?

Just say nothing, as long as you are not claiming single person council tax or any benefits and the council are getting their rent
Think long and hard before getting a private rent with parther, council accommodation should be treat like gold, you will probably never get another chance at one.
What if you split up when you go private, you will have the whole of the rent to pay....
Stay put....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
