Range Rover Diesel, uses less fuel than the Supercharged V8 Petrol model.

What is wrong with your current car? If you're buying a newer one because you want to save money you won't.

I own two cars, I do 17,000 miles a year shared between the two.

    Car 1, Mondeo diesel, 55MPG
    Car 2, MX5, 37MPG.

If I did it in either instead of both:

17,000 miles in the Mondeo at 55MPG, £1.30/l for diesel is £1826 a year.
    17,000 miles in the MX5 at 37MPG, £1.27/l for petrol is £2652.

So even though there's an 18MPG difference between the two it only costs me £826 a year more. The depreciation alone on a much newer car bought to save money would eat up that and more.

How many miles will you do a year and what sort of regular trips are you doing?

You COULD spend £11,000 and keep the other £2K for fuel - so you will have free fuel for the first year......supercharged RR it is

Vauxhall ampera / chevy volt. Technically a hatchback but if you're on electric there's not much out there that will give you better MPG.

It's easier to save more on depreciation than on fuel. Buy a cheaper car.
