Ikea offer the best value. They come with sloghtly higher fitting costs as they are flat pack. I wouldn't purchase flat pack elsewhere because Ikea beat everyone I've ever compared them to on price every time and they offer a long, long guarantee.

All of those other companies are basically the same kitchen with different marketing spin put on it. 1mm here and there on the chipboard, blah... Each retailer offers as much variation within their own ranges as they do to other retailers. The quality of fitting is the most important differentiator.

I would not accept anything with a long lead time. It means just as long a wait when they've ordered something wrong, something doesn't turn up or is broken in transit. This is where B&Q fails miserably and Wren appear to as well.

Price it up wherever you like, but DIY kitchens is an online retailer, and compares favourably to everyone else in that bracket. Otherwise, one of the trade retailers (Howdens, Benchmarx) as items can be bought, changes made and errors rectified almost immediately.

I used to organise the fit out of our new offices which included kitchens. Used Howdens and also Benchmarx. Was very impressed with the quality of Benchmarx as a lot higher than others (so much so I put one into my own house) and had a lot of things as standard where you'd pay for them in other places.

Have also got quotes from both for a rental property and if you can get a 'friendly' installer who will pass on their discounts can be good value (can be 40%+).

I would suggest you buy your own appliances separately as can get decent brands (have been amazed at some of the stuff sold on ebay).

My sister has a B&Q kitchen installed a couple of years ago and it looks really nice but how long it will last who knows.

Friend is a kitchen fitter and he says that most people replace their kitchens after 10 years as they don't look after them. Mine will be 10 this year and he said it looks as if it was installed recently. Its all how you look after and treat them.

    As Doozergirl says, Ikea wins!

If you cant do the DIY side of the installation, they have their own guys - who are NOT Ikea staf, but contractors, so if you can find your own, you may save a few £££. Think they price at £70ish / unit, now, which should give an idea.

Also the kitchen will be in stock and all the bits you want to add to it later on, will be still availalble.

Interest free credit and no false sales discounts and offers.

My fifth (all in different houses of course!!) Ikea kitchen is planned on being fitted next week....watch this space.

I'm not generally a fan of flat pack but I can't complain about Ikea. I suspect it has something to do with who puts them together.

Ikea has no service recess at the back, but it's a quirk rather than a problem, imo. The value for money makes me forgive them.

If you want gadgets and pull outs and accessories then Ikea are untouchable. Everyone else charges the earth for what is ostensibly a metal basket.

My preference is for solid built units but I'm not a massive fan of pull outs and it depends on the budget. I've bought nearly every kind of kitchen going (apart from DIY kitchens!).

My favourite was a Mereway but I've lived with an Ikea kitchen for nearly seven years and I can't complain. Next will be a Shaker Kitchen Company for myself.
