Notice period change

My husband is being made redundant and after the initial consult was advised with everyone was the date would be the 1st September, he then had an individual consult which they advised that he could stay on till December 31, on his normal pay but that this was voluntary if he wanted to do so.

We have now received a letter confirming termination of employment from the date on the letter of 3rd April, with the company on the 31 December with no mention of 1st September and also saying it is giving him 9 months notice from the date of the letter which takes him to 3rd January???????

Any advise would be appreciated on this - he has signed nothing to say he is happy to extend his employment till December

If he finds another job before the end of December, he should read up on Counter Notice.

The employer can change their minds on when they are going to make someone redundant right up to the last day.

They could also bring it forward, the effect is an extended consultation period to negotiate.

counter notice as an option won't kick in till Oct at the earliest later depending on service a lot can happen in the mean time.
