Sending a Parcel to the USA

Hi All

I need to send a parcel to my daughter in America, nothing valuable just clothing for new baby. Who is the best company to use for a parcel weighing approximately 6 kgs.

I have looked on DPD, Hermes and Royal Mail and it is so confusing and some seem to cost the Earth. No rush for the parcel to get there just want a reasonable and reliable company.

Thanks for any advice and recommendations

I would use a parcel comparison such as https://www.parcel2go.com or https://www.parcelmonkey.com. They will let you put weight and size of the parcel in and see what services are available. They will also show which will collect from your house and which you would need to drop off somewhere. They are normally cheaper than going to the couriers direct as they negotiate cheap rates

They are all only as good as the courier services who you buy through them. To be honest though I have used a lot of different couriers and they are all pretty much as good as bad as each other. Just make sure you pay for extra compensation if you need it. They all will limit it to £25 for both damage and if they lose the parcel. You also need to check they will carry what you are sending. Some have funny things they won't take or will take but won't compensate for damage or loss.

We have family in the US so my advice would be to send in smaller parcels if possible, if it's baby clothes you shouldn't have anything too heavy. If you can get parcels under 2kg you can send by Royal Mail. That may also help with customs charges the other end. Sending in one bigger parcel may not always be a money saver.

My in-laws insist on sending us large parcels and labelling them wrong so not only do they over pay on postage I end up with a customs charge as well.

My other advice (that my in-laws tend to ignore!) is to have a look on Amason in the US and send some stuff direct, obviously won't work for more uniquely British items but your post savings can end up going on a nice gift.

6kg is a lot of baby clothes so my guess is you could send a few large letter/small parcels. If you play about with sizes and weights you can probably save on a courier.
