Reinstall Windows 8.1

I have a HP Pavilion that started off as Windows 8 and was updated to Windows 8.1.
I have decided to rejuvenate it using Remove everything and reinstall Windows.
Will this go back to Windows 8 or to Windows 8.1?
as I remember that the trip from windows 8 to 8.1 took many hours, especially kb2919355 which if I recall took many hours to get it to download and install.
Then again I might put an SSD drive in it and install Windows 10 and use it instead of my desktop assuming I can activate it using my Microsoft account from my desktop.

It will typically go back to Windows 8 if that's what it came with. You can upgrade back to 8.1 through the Windows Store.0

I recently had to reinstall Windows on a Lenovo PC. It had been bought with Windows 8.1, with free Windows 10 upgrade.
After reinstalling it went back to Windows 8.1, and I had to reinstall Windows 10.
It took quite a while.
