Lowri Beck Meter Reading Request

I have had 4 voicemails over the past couple of days from Lowri Beck asking for an electricity meter reading. My meter boxes are on the side wall of my house. I called Lowri Beck and asked what was going on given that my electricity supplier has had two meter readings from me in the past month? The bottomline is that Lowri Beck now do an actual read of a meter once a year, and call the customer 6 months later and ask for a meter reading.

I called my supplier: ‘Not us Gov, we use TMA and we only ask them to read your meter if there is an issue. If we suspect that something is wrong, we normally ask the consumer to send us a photo of their meter reading.’

I call Lowri Beck again who were still insistent my supplier wants a meter reading. I, jokingly, ask how much are you going to pay me to read my own meter? How will you know if the reading that I provide is anymore accurate than the ones that I have provided to the supplier in the last 30 days? A bit more probing reveals that the reading is being sought by a supplier that I left nearly 7 months ago!

The only useful bit of advice that the lady at Lowri Beck could offer was that if I do not want anymore calls from them, I should block their number.

I have had meter readers in the past year four times, once to take both a gas and electric reading, once to take an electric reading only, once to take a solar import reading and once to take a solar export reading. For the export reading, the meter reading requested that I taught him how to do it! Smart meters do not appear to reduce meter reading.

@Hengus - was that previous supplier IRESA or Better Energy by any chance? I've had a garbled message left on my ansaphone about needing to supply meter readings even tho' I provided readings last week as normal.

No - it was a request from Powershop. The irony here is that to make any sense of Powershop's unique powerpack offer it is well worth giving them an actual reading every couple of days - which I did. I left Powershop in December 2017, and I was with Bulb for 3 months before switching to Octopus.
