Epson compatible ink cartridges

I have an Epson multifunction inkjet printer which I've always bought Epson brand cartridges for (16XL). However, I see that the compatible cartridges are much cheaper. Does anyone please have any experience of these? Do they print as well and vividly as the Epson ones? Does the ink stay on the page without smudging etc? Are there any brands or providers that are better than others or ones to be avoided? Any help or advice really appreciated. Thank you!

I've found for printing photos & suchlike the best results were obtained using Epson branded inks & paper

However for just bog standard document printing, with maybe a bit of a picture in it, compatibles were very acceptable

It does depend just what you have in mind to print

PS, I used Choice Stationery without any hassle at all. I had one that would not print, replaced without quibble after a phone call

For most users they won't notice any difference in the quality of the ink/printing, the only noticeable effect will be that the printers complains about the ink being non genuine.

My parents printer uses the number 16 compatibles with no issues, even occasionally printing out photos and scans of slides with no problems.
