How long?

Does anyone know how long on average a new car will take from being placed on a carrier/transporter to being delivered to the dealership? Or the maximum time it can be on one? We've ordered a motability car for my disabled daughter and there's been one setback after another but we're finally had the email from our dealership to say it's on the carrier. My insurance is about to run out for my current car on Thursday and my anxiety is sky high, we are supposed to be going on holiday on Monday. It's the first proper holiday we've been able to book as a family, even though it's only 50 miles away, we can't transport my daughter and her neurotypical brother on public transport because of my daughter needs so it'll make things so complicated if it's not here by then. I mean we'll manage somehow but it's added stress we don't particularly want!

Thanks

Best thing you can do is ask to speak to the transport company directly, they may have a route to collect other vehicles but should know a rough ETA.

Why not just ask the dealer.

Depends on many things, like how long it will take to PDI & prepare the vehicle once it arrives.

if its on the water in a container id say your still about 2-3 weeks from handover yet. theres a minimum of 5 days notice/wait period for the dealership to DWP and motability DVLA to put admin/insurance/tax/registration/ and payments in place there can also be outside factors such as damage that can cause delays too.

The carrier from where to where?

If it's just been loaded onto the ship from Korea to the UK, then it's going to be a lot longer than if it's just been loaded onto the truck from the UK distribution depot to the dealer... Oh, and fingers crossed it doesn't get damaged in transit, or have a problem pop up at PDI.

If it's not even at the dealer yet, I really wouldn't be getting my hopes up for going on holiday in it in six days time.

My last new car left Audi in Germany fresh off the line and I picked it up fully prepped from a dealer 100 miles from the port three days later.

I was told it would be no longer than a week from build date to delivery.

No disrespect but if you can't use your current car to transport them why did you book a holiday before it was delivered?

Explain the situation to the dealership. They may give it some priority.

Was yours a Motability car? Remember that Motability own the car and there may be processes where they have to sign it off.

The holiday was booked before the motability order was placed, it just turned out that the timings re holiday, car insurance, new car delivery etc. badly clashed. Anyway the insurance situation is sorted now with my insurer and I'll be fully covered on my current vehicle even if this new one doesn't turn up by Monday.
Now this is just pure curiosity for me as I've never had a motability car before. Timings seem to vary greatly for delivery but it mostly seems to depend on whether the car is being built or is in stock in the UK.
The car is in the UK but I'm not quite sure, I definitely think wasn't shipped from abroad as the original delivery time I was given over a week ago was 7-10 days from the dealership. Unfortunately when I asked the dealership a few days ago to pre-register me for myvauxhall, the VIN wasn't available so they couldn't therefore can't track the delivery myself. I've had my PIN through from motability so I assume that the majority of the paperwork on that front is sorted but as I've read the inspection time can vary.
Anyway, the stress factor is gone now as I don't have to worry about transport for now.
