Thanks for the replies - think I have sorted it through a short-term loan then paying the monthly payments as normal thereafter. Much appreciated.

If you have sold the car they can still repossess it from whoever now has the car.

If this isn't a wind up expect a visit from the police if the loan company find out you have sold their property and report it stolen.
