Buying new car insurance from same company instead of renewing

Where do insurance companies stand now if I take out a new car insurance policy instead of renewing at a higher price from the same insurance company. Especially to get the extra cashback from cashback sites?

Lots of them make that hard to do now - I tried on my home insurance and got 'you seem to be an existing customer, please phone us'. I didn't bother - I moved to someone else instead!

There's no problem asking for the original policy to lapse and then taking out a new policy online at a lower price although you may not get the cashback.
It just depends on how rigorous they are in identifying existing customers.

Yeah I think Admiral are one of those who do rigorous checks - has to be multicar so think limited to Direct Line /Aviva or Admiral - I'll do quotes on all and take it from there.... Thanks

If a broker style insurer they will often honour your new improved price but add their annual administration fee on. Often saves a lot of hassle.
Interestingly my broker came up the exact price of my renewal this year (excluding the admin charge). Possible they have stopped attempting to screw people over at renewal.

Its the extra cashback on top that makes it worthwhile £70-£50 between the 3 multicar insurers I listed.
