Keeping a tree small

Hi there, I want to get one of these lovely things for my back garden:

However, I don't really want it getting above about 2 metres, is that possible do you think? Will it be bad for the plant to keep pruning it back to that height when it wants to get bigger?
(I am a bit of a novice gardener as I'm sure you can tell!)

Ooh, thanks, the mini grandiflora variety may just be the answer!
I have a stellata in the front garden but I really wanted some of those lovely cup shaped flowers too.0 -
I think the magnolias with women's names are generally smaller, but keep the glossiness of the taller magnolias. I have this one but it's only two foot high and hasn't flowered yet. (I also only paid £1.50 for it, so every cloud...)0

How strange I have a label for a Magnolia soulangeana right next to ma at the moment. I've got a feeling that ours bit the dust. Can't remember why hubby gave me the label now lol.0
