Don't forget that just because the car failed its MOT doesn't automatically make it unroadworthy. If this was the case then it would always be illegal to drive away from an MOT test to take your vehicle home.

Unless the defect is repaired before doing so it is an offence to drive it home.

Before some busy body notices get it moved off the public road.
Unless you have tools, know how to use them and storage space then forget about the breaking for spares idea. Stick in on ebay, no reserve, spares/breakage only and that it needs to be trailered/uplifted and not driven away, state everything that is currently wrong with it including no MOT.
Alternatively there are many online services that will organise collection by a legit waste carrier and they will sort out the scrap payment. Note that hard cash is a no no.
Don't forget to do your bits & pieces with the V5 document as well. Here is the link to the rules

Thanks for the replies everyone. It seems like ebay may be a good option, stating clearly that its un roadworthy, failed MOT and cant be driven away, must be taken on a trailer. I really appreciate the help, it seems like a bit of a minefield and at this point I just want rid!

Car takeback offered me £71 for my MOT failed(corroded subframe) 52 plate Forester. I put it on ebay with a £225 starting price 7 day auction it achieved £410. Collected and paid for the day after the auction ended.
I was a bit unsure about ebay but it worked for me.
    This was last week.

...and if it is unroadworthy, then it was also illegal to drive it TO the test, or to work the day before...

What type of car is it?

The reason I ask is my wife used to have a Daihatsu Terios which failed MOT with a rotten chassis. The body was good though, so we stuck it on ebay and it was snapped up by another Terios owner who needed a good interior for his.

£330 is nothing, all cars need that sort of money spending on them. Get it repaired. You won't find a replacement car worth driving for less than £1000 and even then it might be a lemon. Repair your car

It would only be an offence if the MOT had expired or the vehicle was unroadworthy or unsafe and not every MOT failure makes it so.
If my car has a towbar and electrical eurosocket and the wiring in this socket is faulty then it is an MOT failure even if the lights on the car all work and there is no trailer attached to the towbar.
Does this make the car unroadworthy or unsafe?
    Driving a vehicle that’s failed

You can take your vehicle away if:
•your current MOT certificate is still valid
•no ‘dangerous’ problems were listed in the MOT

Otherwise, you’ll need to get it repaired before you can drive.

My thoughts too. I would be quite happy to pay only £330 to get my MX5 through its MOT when it becomes due in September. It's a lovely car, but suffers from corrosion problems common to this marque. Welding usually costs me around £500 each year, but the car is worth practically nothing without an MOT and mechanically it is superb.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I agree but the OP is being gifted a replacement in better condition and with MoT. In this case disposal isn't such a bad option.
